Two gunmen have been apprehended and charged with first-degree murder while armed, a felony, for their roles in the death of 50-year-old Brandywine resident old Aniekobo Macaulay Umoh on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022.
On Wednesday, Jan. 18, members of the MPD’s Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force announced that it tracked down and arrested Southeast, DC resident Rafael Stevens, 38, for the murder.
As the investigation continued, a second suspect, 39-year-old Jermall Johnson, of Northeast, DC, was also taken into custody on Thursday, Jan. 19 by the Fugitive Unit.
Umoh’s shooting kicked off a violent night for the department, which responded to multiple murders in the span of less than eight hours.
The Brandywine resident was found by responding officers shortly before 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 29 with multiple gunshot wounds. Fire and Emergency Services personnel responded and transported Umoh to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No motive for the shooting has been announced by police investigators.
